Nature’s Palette
The backbone of Sound as Color is our natural dye process. Instead of synthetic dyes, we use a combination of plant and mineral-derived extracts from sustainable sources.
Natural dyes are living colors.
Each plant holds its own energetic properties, and these become one with the fibers. Because the use of plant dyes requires more presence in the dye process, these methods forge a deep respect for and connection with nature, from the dye cultivation straight through to the end use of the product.
Our Earth-First Values
Our natural dye process uses sustainable suppliers, homegrown and local organic flowers and plants, and locally sourced food waste. We use naturally derived fabrics in making our products and our local sewers are paid ethical living wages.
We strive to cut down on water consumption by using our dye baths as many times as possible and reusing water in our garden whenever we can.

The textile industry is one of the largest freshwater polluters on Earth. The use of harsh chemicals released during the industrial dye process leaves a profoundly negative imprint on our health and planet. Offering a non-toxic alternative to this process, natural dyes are safe for the environment, our homes and our bodies.
